The first of these took place last year, resulting in several new
members joining our community (see picture). We are now running
another session which started in Sept 2005. The Alpha course is a ten week practical introduction to the Christian
faith. It is designed primarily for non-churchgoers and those who
have recently become Christians. It is also an opportunity for churchgoers
to renew their faith and learn how to share it with others. The
format is a simple shared meal followed by a video presentation
and small discussion groups. There are no current plans for an Alpha
course in the Parish.
Module 1: "Knowing God Better" is aimed at helping Catholics understand their faith more fully, and helping them become more enthusiastic about God's action in their lives. 7 Video tapes feature David Payne, an entertaining and stimulating speaker. Module 2: "Exploring the Catholic Church" takes a closer look at Catholicism including the Sacraments, the Mass, Prayer, Mary and the Saints. 8 video tapes feature Dr Marcellino D'Ambrosio, a humorous and challenging speaker. Module 3: “Catholics Making a Difference” is a course which gives us a chance to find out how we, as Catholics, can make a difference in the world. It is a series of 7 talks on video, in which a variety of excellent Catholic speakers share how their faith has made a difference in the areas of Social Action, Human Rights, and sharing the Good News. This ensures that not only the necessary document, dispensation and other formalities be dealt with but also ensures attendance at an Engaged Couples Course.
