The National Churches Survey - Deadline 30 June 2025
This survey gives every church a voice. The National Churches Trust is carrying out a survey to help politicians, the media, and the wider public better understand the challenges churches, like yours, face and to highlight the vital work they do. They want to hear from staff and volunteers at churches in the UK. Your response will provide essential evidence to build a clearer picture – to tell a stronger, more informed story about your church, and others like it, and help to address some of the biggest challenges facing churches and ensure their future. The survey closes on Monday 30 June 2025.

Clergy Conference & On-going Formation - 1st & 2nd July 2025
This week, all parish priests gather with Bishop Richard for on-going formation. As such, I need to amend my week, meaning there will be no Mass on Tuesday 1st July or Friday 4th July.
Bishop Richards says, ‘Formation is life-long, for the journey to closer conformity to Christ is the very purpose of our lives. This work of formation is a vital element in our lives. We cannot fulfil the mission to which we have been called without engaging in formation and… a model of life-long formation for every person must be seen as a significant fruit for the Diocese.’
This year’s theme is ‘how to live out our vocation in the parishes of the future’. Over the past 18 months, across the diocese our 11 deaneries are preparing to become 11 parishes, served by a clergy team, who - while retaining their connection to a specific community - will work more closely together. While each of these new parishes are at a different stage, it is hoped that by the end of 2025, all the new parishes will have been established.
Please pray that this week’s clergy formation will provide us an opportunity to learn from one another on how to be shepherds to our people in a Church that experiences what has been termed a ‘change of era’. It is accepted that too much of our priests’ time is taken up with administrative duties, for they hold the legal responsibility for many of the regulatory activity of the parish. This challenge is not new: In the Acts of the Apostles (6:1-7), the Apostles faced the dilemma of not being able to give the necessary time to prayer and preaching.
Volunteering is integral to parish life. The many employees and volunteers in the parish play an important and increasing role in running a community of faith. If we want priests to give up these administrative tasks, they will want to be assured that the people have accepted the role and will carry it out with the mind of the Church and the rule of Law, both Civil and Canon Law.
