ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

As Catholics, we believe that in the Holy Eucharist (also known as the Blessed Sacrament), Jesus is literally and wholly present—body and blood, soul and divinity—under the appearances of bread and wine. Times of silent prayer of Adoration are a wonderful way of deepening our love of God and our appreciation of all that Jesus has done for us. As he said: "...my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day." (John 6:40)

We are hoping to have regular times of Adoration at St Joan's, but meanwhile, keep an eye on the weekly bulletin for details.

Alpha is run all over the world, and everyone is welcome. Over 25 million people to date have chosen to sample and then complete the course.

Hospitality: You will find it a warm and welcoming experience with friendly people. Why not try it out? Find an Alpha near you or online

The Talks: are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Each talk is around twenty minutes long and played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us? The quality of the videos is such that whether you have never heard of Jesus or are a lifelong Christian, you will learn new things to inspire and move you.

Discussion: one of the most important parts of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic and discuss in a small group online over Zoom video conferencing. There's no obligation to say anything and there's nothing you can't say (seriously). It is an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly, and open online environment.

How it runs online: participants connect with a Zoom video conference through a link supplied by email. (A learning session will take place before the course for those unfamiliar with Zoom). After an introduction, everyone watches the video together, then breaks out into individual groups for discussion. The whole session is only 75 minutes.

Who? This course is open to anyone over 18. It doesn't matter whether or where you go to church. Non-believers, committed Christians, occasional churchgoers, those who have not been for a while or have doubts, or who have questions about life and faith.
